"1st Hilton Brownies invited Tara to talk to them about wildlife and care. She was amazing and pitched everything to the right level. The girls were so knowledgeable and listened really well. "What a lovely session at 2nd Histon Brownies - I was worried it could be too much just talking, but the girls were very engaged, connecting their own stories and coming up with new ideas.  We have a lot we can take forward in our outdoor session at the end of the term. "Thanks so much for your visit to the Good Shepherd Rainbows. The girls  thoroughly enjoyed finding out all about the animals living in their local area. They especially enjoyed the actions you taught them for the dancing/running weasels, and have turned this into a game we now play most weeks. The knowledge they gained also helped them to create our own  junk modelling animals the very next week at rainbows. "Thank you so much for coming in this morning. Both classes had a fantastic time, everyone learnt something (even the teachers) about caring for the animals in our local area. It was really eye opening to see the gaps in knowledge that children have about animals that live in our country! The Year One class particularly enjoyed acting out the differences between rabbits and hares. The use of syllables to teach the name leveret really helped the children as well, as that is a rather difficult and unusual word for children so young. The picture of the tiny hedgehog (or should I say hoglet) next to the £2 coin really brought into perspective just how tiny they really are to begin with and I will definitely be checking my garden before doing any work in it from now on. 

I know loads of them will be going home tonight and telling their parents that a ducking without an adult duck is a duckling in need of help. It's brilliant to teach children these things to help protect our wildlife. The children also love knowing things that their adults do not. And I loved the quiz at the end to check their understanding and memory of the animals.

"We had the pleasure of welcoming Tara into our Early Years classes to talk to the children about Cambridgeshire Wildlife Care and the important role they play in Soham. Tara talked to the children about nocturnal animals and showed them some photographs. Some of these animals were ones that the children did not know and they were excited to learn the new names and a little bit about them. Tara helped the children to understand what they would need to do if they came across a hedgehog in the middle of the day and talked to them about being careful in the garden when raking up leaves or doing other gardening activities. The children learnt how Tara looks after the hedgehogs and what then happens to them once they are feeling better.
